296 in favour: The Verkhovna Rada supported the certification of NPC Ukrenergo

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at a meeting on Thursday, April 15, voted for draft law No.3364-1-d "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Concerning Certification of the Transmission System Operator", which will allow NPC Ukrenergo to be certified as an independent transmission system operator of the ISO model, Kosatka.Media reports.

Certification of Ukrenergo is one of the main prerequisites for the integration of the Ukrainian energy system into the European one (ENTSO-E), which is scheduled for 2023. Certification is also a requirement of the Law of Ukraine "On the Electricity Market" and EU Directive 2009/72, the implementation of which is part of Ukraine's international obligations.

Integration into ENTSO-E will allow diversifying the import/export of electricity, expand the sales market for Ukrainian generation, in particular, for nuclear power plants (NPP).

Consumers in Zakarpattia, parts of Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions (Burshtyn energy island) will have access to electricity from the nuclear power plant.

According to Ukrenergo's calculations, the direct economic effect of this integration will amount to $1.5 billion per year.

In August 2019, NPC Ukrenergo submitted documents to NEURC for certification as an independent operator of the transmission system.

On April 9, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utility Services recommended the Verkhovna Rada to support draft law No.3364-1 (e).

As reported, in 2020 Ukrenergo completed key measures to integrate the Ukrainian energy system to ENTSO-E.
