The Verkhovna Rada asks the US, EU and Germany to stop Nord Stream 2

On July 21, 2021, members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation adopted the text of the Joint Statement of People's Deputies of Ukraine regarding the appeal to the United States of America and the European Union on the inadmissibility of launching Nord Stream 2 and opened it for signing to all People's Deputies of Ukraine.

The text of the document was published on the Verkhovna Rada’s website.

In the statement, the MPs of Ukraine call on the United States, the EU and, in particular, Germany to stop the construction and subsequent commissioning of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

“The democratic world must demonstrate unity and strength to the Russian aggressor in defending its core values. Ukraine demonstrates this every day, defending the Eastern flank of Europe,” the message says.

The statement also notes that Nord Stream 2 was not an economic project from the very beginning because the capacity of the Ukrainian gas transmission system makes it possible to increase gas pumping to Europe by 2-3 times. At the same time, Nord Stream 2 creates real obstacles to the diversification of sources and routes of energy supplies to Europe.

To recap, the United States and Germany have officially agreed to complete the construction of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by publishing a joint declaration.
