Cyprus authorities report an oil spill in the Mediterranean

Cypriot authorities have reported an oil spill in the Mediterranean Sea. The first data on the pollution of the water area was received on the evening of August 29, Angi reports.

A fuel leak occurred at a power plant in the Syrian city of Baniyas. The crews of the ships in the emergency zone said that they noticed the so-called rainbow oil slick on the surface of the water.

Satellite images have shown that the slick is moving towards the northeast coast of Cyprus. A simulation of the further spread of the film, which will reach Cape Andrew Apostle within 24 hours, has been made.

A 400-meter barrier was installed near the Karpasia Peninsula. Two specialized vessels from Turkey are expected to arrive in the area on September 3 to collect oil from the surface of the water.

To recap, oil spills on the Mediterranean coast are being liquidated in Syria due to an accident at a thermal power plant.
