Zelenskyi on energy crisis: oligarchs and media are to blame

For the first time, the President of Ukraine commented on the crisis in the energy sector of Ukraine. In his opinion, the oligarchs are playing a game of "artificial shortage" of coal and gas, and the media are helping them in this.

He said this in a video message posted on the official page on Facebook (scroll down to watch the video, from 7:16).

“Every year in the fall and winter, some oligarchic structures start a game called “artificial deficit”. ... The news about the shortage of coal, gas is being spread and the demand is growing. The price increases, and we pay,” Zelenskyi said.

He warned that “this year it’s better not to start this game” because the state has “a lack of patience”, and when it ends, “some will have the hellish period”.

“You can check it out. Or you can simply help your state, show that big business has not only great assets but also great consciousness and great responsibility. And that is why it is big,” Zelenskyi suggested.

Also, speaking about energy, Zelenskyi told about the media.

“It is important for the state that citizens have not only heating in their homes, but also honest TV, honest news, and not constant horror stories about tariff increases. ... No need to nightmarize them with insights and forecasts from "very reliable" sources that we will all freeze in the dark and without water," Zelenskyi summed up.

To recap, the energy expert Borys Kostyukovsky believes that there are zero chances that Ukraine will pass this heating season painlessly.
