Ukrainian scientists: there is pure hydrogen in Rivne region

Scientists at the National Academy of Sciences confirm the presence of natural hydrogen in the in Earth's interior in Ukraine. And they are working on a method of production.

This was announced during the meeting on hydrogen technologies at the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection by the academician-secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Ponomarenko.

According to him, scientists are testing the theory that there is hydrogen in the central part of the Earth, which is released to the surface through faults as a result of tectonic processes.

Mr. Ponomarenko assured that the Department of Earth Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine are working on the issue of the formation of such hydrogen and experimentally confirms this theory.

According to the scientist, there are wells that produce hydrogen in such a way in the world. And it has a purity of 98%. In particular, in Mali.

“There are natural associations of solids in Rivne region, similar to the Malian ones, both in age and in composition. We have already found such areas. A request to the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection to help us with the wells. We expect that in the near future we will get hydrogen”, Ponomarenko said.

He added that in Mali, the price of hydrogen produced in this way is about 50 cents. And he called this direction of hydrogen production for Ukraine extremely promising.

The Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection declared high interest in hydrogen technologies as an opportunity to transform energy in Ukraine.
