Energoatom guarantees the use of all power units if necessary

The Acting President of NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin says if necessary, all 15 power units of nuclear power plants will operate in the autumn-winter period, the press service reports.

“In November - February, 14 power units will operate. In some periods, if necessary, and that's all 15. Of course, this will be a challenge for us, especially in terms of further optimization of the repair campaign with a reduction in the time of repairs with the unconditional fulfilment of the planned volumes of repair work,” he said.

From the beginning of December, ZNPP will operate with six units until March 1, 2022: ZNPP power unit 2 is planned to be taken out of repair and connected to the grid on December 3, and unit 4 - on November 21.

The company notes that in comparison with the previous heating season, the expected production volumes of nuclear power plants will increase by more than 12%. The projected operating capacity of the NPP in November - January exceeds the optimal indicators proposed by NPC Ukrenergo, which will allow overfulfilling the updated projected electricity balance of the UPS of Ukraine in October - December 2021 by 3% and generate an additional 650 million kWh. electricity.

They also reported that in the first half of 2021, the number of operational events at nuclear power plants decreased compared to the same period last year. So, in January-June 2021, 9 violations were recorded in the operation of nuclear power plants, 2 less than in the first half of 2020.
