“Energoatom” did not agree on January forecasting balance. More electricity is required from Nuclear Power Plant

“Energoatom” did not agree on January forecasting balance, in which The Ministry of Energetic and Coal Production of Ukraine planned to increase the generation to 40 kWh.

The Ministry of Energetic and Coal Production of Ukraine published this information with copies of documents.

The department expects that in January all power stations will generate 15 billion 672 million kWh. Of these, 51.8%, or 8 billion 90 million kWh, are assigned to NPP.

“Energoatom” highlighted the fact that in January the repair of two power units of Zaporizhzhya NPP, 3rd and 6th power units will continue. Moreover, the period of repairs of power units in January continued for nine days more compared with September 2018.

Therefore, Energoatom asserts that they expect a decrease in output by 219 million kWh, compared with the forecast balance for 2019, which was approved by the Ministry of Energy and Coal Production in September 2018. Then the Ministry will approve that the NPPs will generate 8 billion 50 million kWh.

The topic is being actively discussed, especially against the background that the tariff for nuclear power plants was raised only by 1.6%, and the company notes that this is not enough, referring to the needs of safety.

In addition, leading indicators for 2019 are too optimistic, says in “Energoatom”. The Ministry of Energy and Coal Production plans to increase nuclear generation volumes 700 million kWh.

NNEGC “Energoatom” found the Ministry position… unreasonable, as it directly affects the safety of operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. “Energoatom does not agree with this position of the Ministry. We consider it illegal, and we will dispute it. Using similar methods, electricity production at nuclear power plants does not increase, as this can lead to extremely negative consequences”, said Tatyana Amosova, Director of Investment and Prospective Development of NNEGC “Energoatom”, during her speech at the open meeting of the National Regulator Commission, which took place on December 12.

For comparison, taking into account three power units under repair (power units No. 3 and No. 6 of ZNPP and power unit No. 1 of KhNPP, with a capacity of 1000 MW each) during the 18th of December, nuclear generation supplied 262.88 million kWh of electricity to the market.
