Energoatom builds new nuclear power units in Cherkasy and Odesa regions

NNEGC Energoatom jointly with the American Westinghouse continue the cooperation on building five nuclear reactors in Ukraine under the AP-1000 project, the President of Energoatom Petro Kotin told in an interview for ElektroVesti.

“We will build five power units under the AP-1000 project. This is the project of Westinghouse. Up-to-date, with a considerably higher security and safety level than the Soviet one, which we are using today. It is also much better than those that Russia is currently building,” he said.

According to Kotin, two power units are planned to be built at the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant and one at every other station.

“So far, we have suggested the Chyhyryn site. We also have a request from the Odesa community. They would like to have a power unit. This is interesting information for us. The regional administration addressed this request and we consider it very good news for us,” Kotin stressed.
