Energoatom intends to create data centers close to NPPs
SE NNEGC Energoatom and the Dutch company Bitfury Holding B.V. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation to create data centers on the territories of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, the press service reports.
The goal is to maintain or increase the volume of electricity production by nuclear generation in Ukraine and restore the balance of electricity production/consumption. Among the prerequisites for signing the document, the parties noted the rapid growth of the data center services as an industry with the launch of the latest hardware technologies, which allows consolidating information resources and reducing the total cost of owning IT infrastructure.
The document predicts that the total energy consumption of the project could reach 2 GW.
“Thanks to the experts of Energoatom and Bitfury Holding engaged in the preparation of the Memorandum and for completing the first stage of cooperation. This is the beginning of a large and complex work, which will allow solving some strategic tasks both for Energoatom and for Ukraine as a state,” said the head of NAEGC Petr Kotin.
To recap, Ukrenergo and Energoatom have completed testing of NPP power units for integration into ENTSO-E.
As reported, a powerful data center will be built next to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
