Energoatom shortens the duration of repair campaigns to support the power system

To compensate for non-operating thermal generation capacities during a period of a significant cold snap, NNEGC Energoatom has reduced the repair time for power unit No.2 of Khmelnytskyi NPP by more than a month and is completing its preparations for launch, the press service reports.

In January, to pass the cold weather, it was necessary to extend the operation of power unit No.1 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP before it was taken out for repair. And for two weeks ZNPP worked at a historical maximum capacity, providing the United Energy System with 5750 MW of electricity per day.

Now start-up work is underway at the 2nd power unit of Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant, which will be connected to the IPS of Ukraine by the end of this week.

“We have reduced repair work at this power unit by almost a month. This will add another 1000 MW to the power system,” said the head of the company, Petro Kotin. “We hope that this will solve all the issues that have arisen with the lack of electricity in the country.”

To recap, the chairman of the board of NPC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi reported that during 2021 a record number of blocks of thermal power plants went into an emergency repair.

As reported, by the end of the week NEURC plans to complete inspections of TPPs.
