Rivne NPP power unit no.1 can be operated until 2030 – SNRIU
NNEGC Energoatom informs that 10 years will expire on December 22, 2020, from the date of granting a license to extend the design life of RNPP power unit 1 for a period of 20 years, subject to a safety reassessment every 10 years and submitting a corresponding report to SNRIU.
Therefore, the issue of further operation of the nuclear installation of this power unit was considered at a meeting of the Board of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine, which was held on December 10 in the format of an online conference.
As a result of the state examination of the Report on periodic safety reassessment, it was determined that the safety level of the power unit No.1 of the Rivne NPP complies with the norms and rules for nuclear and radiation safety.
Since the previous reassessment of the safety of the power unit, it has not deteriorated, which was facilitated by several measures to improve it.
The examination did not reveal any shortcomings that would cast doubt on the possibility of operating the 1st power unit of the Rivne NPP over the next ten years – until 2030.
During the meeting, the General Director of Rivne NPP emphasized that all measures to improve safety were completed on time, and the existing deviations from the norms and rules were eliminated according to the schedule.
The general conclusion of the Board: long-term operation of power unit No. 1 of Rivne NPP is possible until December 22, 2030.
Earlier it was reported that at the end of September Westinghouse and Energoatom signed a contract for the supply of nuclear fuel for the reactors of the Rivne NPP.
