The Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection is considering the possibility of reducing the share of nuclear generation in the energy balance in the spring months, since from April renewable energy generation will begin to grow significantly, which will complicate the situation with balancing the energy system with a large share of non-maneuvering nuclear energy. This was stated by Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel, Expro reports.
“We already have and are looking at removing nuclear units (these cheap, state-owned companies) from the balance due to the fact that from April there will be more sun and more generation (electricity from renewable energy sources – ed.)”, he said .
Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Public Services Andriy Gerus also commented on the situation with the shutdown of nuclear units:
“We can come to a situation where we will have a large amount of electricity from renewable energy sources and we will have to (in order for it to remain in operation) stop the nuclear units of our state-owned Energoatom... If we come to such a situation that we buy an expensive “green” electricity, keep it in work, but at the same time we disconnect the existing units of Energoatom, I think that this is not a very state position”, he said.
To recap, the government has made a decision that allows holding “green” auctions for the sale of energy produced from alternative sources at transparent auctions through the Prozorro.Sales.
It was previously reported that Guaranteed Buyer predicted a deficit of payments at a feed-in tariff of UAH 8.2 billion.
