A fire in the oil tank of the boiler and turbine workshop occurred at DTEK Burshtyn TPP

Yesterday, August 18, at 4:50 pm, a fire occurred in the oil tank of the boiler and turbine workshop at Burshtyn TPP (DTEK Zakhidenergo) at power unit No.3. This was reported by the press service of DTEK, Kosatka.Media reports.

As of 6:15 pm, the fire at Burshtyn TPP was liquidated.

“There are no casualties. The shutdown of the unit did not affect the heat and power supply of the Burshtyn energy island,” DTEK said.

According to the State Service for Emergency Situations in Ivano-Frankivsk region, the message about the fire was received by the rescue service at 4:51 pm, a total of 20 pieces of equipment and 89 people from the State Emergency Service were involved in extinguishing the fire.

“On August 18 at 4:51 pm in the city of Burshtyn, at the power unit No.3 of the boiler and turbine workshop of Burshtyn TPP, DTEK Zakhidenergo JSC, the flange on the oil system of the main oil tank of the turbine was depressurized and oil spilt with a volume of 2 cubic meters. As a result, oil and cable routes were ignited in trays and cable tunnels of power unit No.3 at all elevations. Fire with separate centres on a total area of ​​approximately 1000 sq. m.,” the State Emergency Service informed.

Residents of the city of Burshtyn, where the TPP is located, began to actively discuss the fire on the network, noting that DTEK does not comply with fire safety standards and saves on repairs of power units.

Burshtyn thermal power plant is located near the city of Burshtyn (Ivano-Frankivsk region) at the intersection of power lines connecting Ukraine with Hungary, Romania, Slovakia.

Installed capacity - 2,400 MW.

The main process fuel is coal from domestic coal basins, while the auxiliary fuel is natural gas and fuel oil.

12 power units (with a capacity of 200 MW each) were commissioned in 1965-1969. Thanks to the favourable geographic location, two or three power units are constantly working for export.
