IAEA is inspecting at Zaporizhzhya NPP

From 03 to 09 May 2021, inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are carrying out a regular scheduled inspection of power unit No. 3, which is under planned mid-life repair, and a dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel (SNFSF), the press service of the NPP reports.

While working at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, IAEA inspectors at the power unit will carry out maintenance, shutdown the underwater camera; verification of nuclear materials (NM) in the spent fuel pool before and after the dispatch of spent nuclear fuel to the storage facility; install IAEA seals on weather covers of ventilated storage containers; verification of accounting, operational and reporting documents; verification of the information on the design of the installation.

At the storage facility, IAEA inspectors will check, remove, install seals on and between ventilated storage containers, check information about the design of the facility; verification of accounting, operational and reporting documents.

The IAEA is the world's only international inspector for nuclear safeguards and control in the field of civil nuclear programs. The purpose of the control is to prevent the transfer of nuclear materials used in nuclear installations located in 70 countries of the world for military purposes.

As reported, the IAEA inspection checked the Rivne NPP.
