The first power unit of BelNPP has been disconnected from the network

The first power unit of the Belarusian NPP has been disconnected from the network due to the activation of the generator's automatic protection, Interfax reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Belarus.

“On July 12 at 12:57 p.m. the first power unit of the BelNPP has been disconnected from the network by automatic generator protection. Following the standard algorithm, the power of the reactor plant was reduced,” the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.

It is noted that the radiation situation at the NPP and in the observation area did not change.

“The reasons for the shutdown of the electric generator are determined. After their elimination, the power unit will be relaunched,” the message says.

The first power unit of BelNPP was put into commercial operation on June 10 this year. The physical start-up of the first power unit of the station took place in August 2020.

Earlier, Oleksandr Lukashenko said that if necessary, a second nuclear power plant would be built in Belarus.
