Electricity consumption in 2020 exceeded the planned indicators, - Buslavets

Acting Energy Minister Olha Buslavets, during a retreat at the South Ukrainian NPP, noted that electricity consumption has exceeded the forecasted indicators by 3% for 9 months of 2020.

“Consumption has grown by 3% and basic nuclear generation has produced 3% more electricity than we assumed in the forecast balance. At the same time, thermal generation produced almost that much less,” Olha Buslavets noted.

According to her, nuclear power is in the constant focus of attention of the Ministry, Government and the President and outlined the main decisions aimed at improving the situation in the industry.

"Recently, PSO has been gradually changed, which allowed nuclear power to independently enter the market of bilateral contracts, and sell almost 40% of its generated electricity under bilateral contracts, with its trade strategy to ensure the break-even operation of nuclear power plants," the minister said.

To recap, debts to Energoatom amounted to more than UAH 22 billion at the end of September.

Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers made changes to PSO in the electricity market.
