Electricity consumption has decreased by 4.9% since the beginning of the year

NPC Ukrenergo reports that the decrease in electricity consumption was 4.9% (58.6 billion kWh compared to 61.6 billion kWh) in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

According to current data, electricity consumption (net, excluding losses in power grids) in the Ukrainian power system decreased by 4.4% in June 2020 compared to June 2019 (8.9 billion kWh vs 9.3 billion kWh).

Almost all consumer groups reduced consumption in June, except for the population, the chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as agricultural consumers (+ 11.5%, + 7% and + 0.3% compared to June 2019).

The largest decline for the indicated period was demonstrated by the transport sector (-24.2%), machine-building industry (-20.7%), public utilities (-19.2%), other non-industrial consumers (-11.6%), food and processing industry (-8.7%), fuel industry (-6.9%). In general, the level of industrial consumption decreased by 4.2% in June 2020 compared to June 2019.

The level of consumption of the entire industry decreased by 6.2% from 25.76 billion kWh to 24.17 billion kWh in January-June 2020 in comparison with January-June 2019. In particular, electricity consumption by the machine-building industry decreased most of all – by 20% (1564.8 million kWh vs 1955.7 million kWh), by transport – by 17.7% (2794.8 million kWh vs 3396, 1 million kWh).

At the same time, the consumption of electricity by the population increased by 2.9% (18.97 billion kWh against 18.4 billion kWh) in the first half of 2020 and by the chemical and petrochemical industry – by 16.4% (1960 , 5 million kWh compared to 1,684 million kWh).

It was previously reported that electricity imports to Ukraine decreased by 1.8 times in June compared to May.
