The Board of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) recommends the inspectorate to continue service of power unit No.1 of the Khmelnitsky NPP beyond the design period, for 10 years until December 13, 2028.
“To recognize the reasonable possibility of the safe service of the power unit No.1 of the Khmelnytsky NPP at the capacities indicated in the project”, it is said in the decision of the SNIRIU board.
Thus, this is the tenth block of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, whose run life has been extended. In December 2010, the SNIRIU extended the service life of units No.1 and No.2 of the Rivne NPP (by 20 years), in November 2013 – unit No.1 of the South Ukrainian NPP (10 years), December 2015 – unit No.2 of the South Ukrainian NPP (10 years), September 2016 – unit No. 1 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP (10 years), in October 2016 – unit No.2 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP (10 years), November 2017 – unit No.3 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP (10 years), in July 2018 – unit No.3 of the Rivne NPP (20 years), in October 2018 – unit No.4 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP (10 years).
KhNPP consists of two power units (VVER-1000) with a total capacity of 2000 MW, and is located in Netishin city.
