Ukrenergo connected Kakhovska substation to Zaporizhzhia NPP

NPC Ukrenergo informs that it has completed construction and switched on the overhead power line (OHL) of 750 kV Zaporizhzhia NPP – Kakhovska into the operating voltage. Thanks to this, network restrictions will be removed, and the possibility of supplying the capacity of the Zaporizhzhia NPP of 6000 MW will be provided. This, in turn, will make it possible to increase the share of nuclear power plants in the total electricity production, particularly in the autumn-winter period, which can give a positive economic effect for NNEGC Energoatom.

This investment project is being implemented with loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the total amount of €335 million on a parity basis.

“At the same time, according to the results of international bidding, the project's cost was reduced by about 40% and actually amounted to 195 million euros. The saved funds have so far been directed to the construction of Zakhidna substation near Kyiv (EBRD funds) and a fiber-optic communication line ring in 11 regions of Ukraine (EIB funds),” the message says.

The 750 kV overhead line ZNPP – Kakhovska with the 750 kV Kakhovska substation is the first element in the construction of the 750 kV southern high-voltage trunk line and involves further construction:

OHL 750 kV Kakhovskaya – Prymorskaya with 750 kV Prymorskaya substation;

OHL 750 kV Pivdennoukrainsk NPP – Prymorska;

This will ensure reliable delivery of NPP capacities to the grid and their transit to the power system's scarce regions. In addition, 750 kV Prymorska subbstatiion, tied to the existing networks of 330-750 kV, will become a new reference power source in the Odesa region and will remove the load on the networks in the section of the IPS of Ukraine – Odesa, Moldova, and will also ensure the reliability of power supply to the consumers of this power center.

The new network infrastructure will also significantly increase the reliability of supplying renewable power to the energy system and the possibility of their further development in the region.
