Ukrenergo will receive €24.5 million from Germany for the modernization of substations and integration into ENTSO-E

The Government of Ukraine was represented by the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Maxym Nefedov, from the German side – the Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Ernst Reichel. It was announced by the press service of the company.

The status of implementation of the Energy Strategy for the period until 2035, reforms, integration of the energy grid of Ukraine to ENTSO-E, as well as the implementation of existing and future investment projects were discussed at the meeting.

During the meeting, the German side highly appreciated the cooperation between Ukrenergo and KfW and announced the provision of financial assistance in the amount of more than €80 million within the framework of technical and financial cooperation for the implementation of reforms in a number of industries.

“In particular, €24.5 million will be spent on the implementation of a new project for the reconstruction and automation of Ukrenergo substations “Improving the efficiency of power transmission (integration of the Ukrainian integrated energy system to the European integrated energy system) III”. This will significantly improve the reliability of power transmission and ensure the technical compliance of equipment and network operation with the standards and requirements of ENTSO-E”, said Vladimir Kudritsky, the Deputy Director for Investment at Ukrenergo.

Also, Ukrenergo presented the state of implementation of the roadmap for the integration of the power grid of Ukraine to ENTSO-E. In this direction, the company is working closely with the German transmission system operator 50 Hertz, who is now a key partner of Ukrenergo in the process of integrating networks. Ukrenergo proposed to expand cooperation, in particular in terms of attracting German experience in integrating generation from renewable energy sources into the power grid. Such a project on the provision of technical assistance has already been submitted to the German government for consideration and this may be the first example of successful cooperation in the electricity sector at the intergovernmental level.

Earlier it was reported that NPC Ukrenergo completed a test cycle of generating equipment of TPPs, CHPPs and HPPs for frequency and power regulation as part of a program to study the possibility of synchronous operation of the power grids of Ukraine and Moldova with ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity).
