Ukrhydroenergo will attract $211 million to implement an investment project to improve the stability of the power grid

PrJSC Ukrhydroenergo will attract $211 million to implement an investment project to increase the stability of the energy system, the press service reports.

"The investment project "Ukraine - Increasing the stability of the energy system for European energy network integration” (Installation of hybrid systems for the production of electricity in PJSC Ukrhydroenergo) "is planned to be implemented jointly with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Clean Technologies Fund. To implement the project, loans will be attracted of USD 177 million and USD 34 million, respectively ”. This decision, initiated by the Ministry of Energy, was approved by the Government at a meeting on June 2,” the statement says.

In particular, 197 MW of lithium-ion energy storage systems will be installed on the territories of the stations of PJSC Ukrhydroenergo, which are planned to be attracted to provide auxiliary services for frequency and active power regulation, the frequency maintenance reserve and the frequency recovery reserve. Besides, 63.9 MW of solar photovoltaic power plants will be installed to power the own needs of hydroelectric power plants and pumped storage power plants and to charge storage systems.

The use of solar generation facilities will provide an alternative source of energy for the stations' own needs and battery charging and increase the company's offerings on the electricity market.

Installation of hybrid power generation plants based on battery storage will allow PJSC Ukrhydroenergo to provide the transmission system operator with an additional frequency maintenance reserve and expand the regulatory range of the automatic frequency recovery reserve required to ensure reliable and stable operation of the UPS of Ukraine, compliance with the operational safety of the power system and the quality of electrical energy.
