Ukrenergo invested UAH 3.12 million in grids development in 2020

NPC Ukrenergo reported that UAH 3.12 million was invested in the development of grids in 2020, the investment program of the year was fulfilled by 95.3%.

A large share of funding – more than 85% or UAH 2.667 million – was allocated for the reconstruction of substations, power lines, the purchase of equipment etc. The other 15% of financing (UAH 453 million) are allocated for new construction. Credit funds accounted for 71% of the annual volume of investments.

Reconstruction of grids and construction of new facilities are stipulated by the Transmission System Development Plan for the next 10 years and are aimed at ensuring the delivery of full generation power, reliability of power supply to consumers in individual regions, increasing the reliability and safety of the transmission system and the operation of the entire energy system of Ukraine.

In 2020, UAH 136 million loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were attracted for the reconstruction of 12 330-750 kV substations with the replacement of main equipment and the introduction of automated process control systems (APCS). This project is part of a comprehensive substation automation program, which provides for the reconstruction of all Ukrenergo substations using an automated process control system and is being implemented with funds from international financial institutions (IFIs).

The attraction of loan funds from IFIs is an element of Ukrenergo's investment policy strategy, which makes it possible to reduce the impact of the implementation of large-scale and expensive projects on the company's tariff for electricity transmission services. Today, Ukrenergo's loan portfolio is €1.4 billion.

To recap, Ukrenergo starts the construction of a 330 kV Zakhidna substation near Kyiv.
