In 2020, Ukrenergo completed key activities to integrate the Ukrainian energy system to ENTSO-E

NPC Ukrenergo informs that by the end of 2020, it has finished the collection and preparation of data for the creation of a mathematical model of the Ukrainian power system and the study of its static and dynamic stability during synchronous operation with the European power system.

In October 2020, the final part of the dataset for such studies was transferred to the ENTSO-E Consortium, which includes six European DSOs: 50Hertz (Germany), PSE S.A. (Poland), MAVIR (Hungary), SEPS (Slovakia), Transelectrica (Romania) and EMC (Serbia).

The consortium confirmed the sufficiency of the data and in the second half of 2021 should complete the study of the static and dynamic stability of the power system and determine the technical feasibility of synchronous operation of the IPS of Ukraine with the power system of continental Europe ENTSO-E.

As part of the preparation of the IPS of Ukraine for synchronization with ENTSO-E in 2020, Ukrenergo has implemented several projects for the construction and reconstruction of grids to improve the reliability of power supply in border areas and the operation of interconnectors.

Together with Siemens Ukraine, Ukrenergo completed the first stage of designing a new system for dispatch control and data collection (SCADA), which will allow reaching a qualitatively new level of dispatch control of the IPS of Ukraine with a high level of information security and meeting the requirements of ENTSO-E.

Another prerequisite for the integration of the IPS of Ukraine into ENTSO-E is the existence of operational agreements and agreements on emergency mutual assistance between Ukrenergo and neighbouring European DSOs.

To recap, the integration of the IPS of Ukraine into ENTSO-E is a key strategic goal of Ukrenergo and an integral part of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement. Network integration is fully supported by the European Union.

One of the key tasks in achieving this goal so far remains the certification of Ukrenergo as an independent operator of transmission systems, which will allow Ukrenergo to become a full-fledged participant in the European power grid.

On February 19, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a draft law that allows NPC Ukrenergo to be certified as an operator of a transmission system according to the ISO model (Independent System Operator). Final acceptance is expected, after which documents for certification will be submitted to NEURC.

Earlier, NEURC approved the draft investment program of Ukrenergo for 2021 for further discussion.
