Main indicators of the gas sector of Ukraine (October-2019)

In October, 1.35 billion cubic meters of gas were pumped into underground gas storage facilities compared to 2.18 billion cubic meters during September, and as a result, on October 31, in the Ukrainian storage facilities were accumulated more than 21.78 billion cubic meters of natural gas, by 6.6% more than on September 30, as well as by 27.1% more than on October 31 last year. According to Ukrtransgaz, the current level of reserves in underground storage facilities is the highest over the past 10 years.

Gas imports to Ukraine in October fell by 15.4%, to 1.69 billion cubic meters. So, in 2019, natural gas by months was imported in the following volumes:

  • January – 0.24 billion cubic meters;
  • February – 0.66 billion cubic meters;
  • March – 0.63 billion cubic meters;
  • April – 0.88 billion cubic meters;
  • May – 1.54 billion cubic meters;
  • June – 1.66 billion cubic meters;
  • July – 1.95 billion cubic meters;
  • August – 2.04 billion cubic meters;
  • September – 2.00 billion cubic meters;
  • October – 1.69 billion cubic meters.

According to the results of 10 months of this year, gas imports amounted to 13.29 billion cubic meters, by 44% more than the corresponding period last year. High volumes of gas imports were caused by Ukraine’s preparations for possible interruptions in transit from January 1, 2020 against the backdrop of trilateral talks between Naftogaz and Gazprom with the mediation of the European Commission.

At the end of October 2019, Ukrainian gas producers produced 1.71 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is 4.3% more than in the previous month.

Dynamics of natural gas production:

  • January – 1.81 billion cubic meters;
  • February – 1.64 billion cubic meters;
  • March – 1.81 billion cubic meters;
  • April – 1.70 billion cubic meters;
  • May – 1.78 billion cubic meters;
  • June – 1.69 billion cubic meters;
  • July – 1.70 billion cubic meters;
  • August – 1.70 billion cubic meters;
  • September – 1.64 billion cubic meters;
  • October – 1.71 billion cubic meters.

The total production for 10 months amounted to 17.18 billion cubic meters. It should be noted that the average daily production in October amounted to 55.11 million cubic meters, by 0.9% more than in September. Gas transit through Ukraine increased by 5.5% in October this year compared to the same period in 2018 and amounted to 6.98 billion cubic meters.

Gas transit dynamics for 2019:

  • January – 7.61 billion cubic meters;
  • February – 6.21 billion cubic meters;
  • March – 7.18 billion cubic meters;
  • April – 8.30 billion cubic meters;
  • May – 8.36 billion cubic meters;
  • June – 7.45 billion cubic meters;
  • July – 8.11 billion cubic meters;
  • August – 6.36 billion cubic meters;
  • September – 6.76 billion cubic meters;
  • October – 6.98 billion cubic meters.

A total of 73.32 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported by transit pipelines in a transit mode since the beginning of 2019.
