Ukrainian gas sector results (2nd quarter of 2019)

According to the results of the 2nd quarter of 2019, Ukrainian gas production enterprises produced 5.21 billion cubic meters of natural gas (by 2.1% more than in the same period last year). In particular, the monthly production structure in 2019 looks as follows:

  •  January — 1.82 bln cubic meters;
  • February — 1.64 bln cubic meters;
  • March — 1.82 bln cubic meters;
  • April — 1.74 bln cubic meters;
  • May — 1.78 bln cubic meters;
  • June — 1.69 bln cubic meters.

During the 1st half of 2019, 10.48 billion cubic meters of gas were produced by capacities of domestic and foreign companies in the territory of Ukraine (2.7% more than last year).

Gas transit by main pipelines for April-June is 24.06 billion cubic meters (by 7.5%more than last year).  Monthly volumes of gas transmission from the RF are as follows:

  • January — 7.61 bln cubic meters;
  • February — 6.22 bln cubic meters;
  • March — 7.18 bln cubic meters;
  • April — 8.25 bln cubic meters;
  • May — 8.36 bln cubic meters;
  • June — 7.45 bln cubic meters.

In the first six months, the total volume of gas transit to European countries amounted to 45.07 billion cubic meters (by 6.3% more than in the first half of 2018).

Gas imports to Ukraine in the 2nd quarter of 2019 are characterized by rapid growth, the goal of which is to fill the underground gas storage facilities as soon as possible. Thus, in the three months 4.08 billion cubic meters of gas were imported (by 53.9% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2018). The structure of gas supplies from abroad looks as follows:

  • January — 0.25 bln cubic meters;
  • February — 0.67 bln cubic meters;
  • March — 0.64 bln cubic meters;
  • April — 0.88 bln cubic meters;
  • May — 1.54 bln cubic meters;
  • June — 1.66 bln cubic meters.

It is worth noting that the total volume of imported fuel for the first half of the year reaches 5.63 billion cubic meters (compared to the same period last year, the figure is higher by 27.9%).

At the end of the 2nd quarter of this year, underground gas storage facilities located on the territory of Ukraine stored 13.54 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is equivalent to about 43.7% of the total project capacity of Ukrainian UGS. At the similar date of last year (June 30), 11.18 billion cubic meters of gas were stored (21.1% less than this year).
