Oleksii Ryabchin appointed as Vitrenko's advisor on the development of low-carbon businesses and the EU green course

Oleksii Ryabchin has been appointed advisor to the chairman of the board of the National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine on the development of low-carbon businesses and the EU's green course, the press service of the NJSC reported.

“For a modern energy company, it is necessary to take into account the international context of green and decarbonization policies, for example, the EU Green Deal, and the strengthening of climate regulation of traditional energy businesses. Therefore, in addition to its main activity - the extraction and supply of energy resources, Naftogaz requires efforts for green transformation, modernization and greening. Without the green component of the business and in the absence of ESG strategies, today it is difficult to attract investments in the development of any modern company,” Oleksii Ryabchin said.

At NJSC, he will assist in the implementation of the corporate strategy of the Naftogaz Group, which stipulates that the future of Naftogaz is based on three business platforms: gas business, supply to end consumers and low-carbon businesses.

Oleksii Ryabchin will work to establish constant interaction on the development of low-carbon businesses and the EU Green Deal with government authorities, international organizations, representatives of the US and EU member states, analytical centres and the media.

We will remind, earlier, Oleksii Ryabchin worked as an adviser to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration and the Minister of Environmental Protection, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection, headed the subcommittee on the energy efficiency of the Fuel and Energy Complex Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation, was a negotiator from Ukraine at the UN climate summit, worked in private business and participated in the implementation of a number of international initiatives for low-carbon development, taught at domestic and foreign universities. He was educated at Donetsk National University and Sasek University (Great Britain), holds a PhD in Economics.

The European Green Deal is a set of policy initiatives put forward by the European Commission with the common goals of making the European continent climate neutral by 2050, minimizing oil, gas and coal consumption, improving citizens' well-being, protecting biodiversity and greening the economy.
