Expert: It is important not to eat away the received $2.9 billion

$2.9 billion dollars received from Gazprom is very important not to eat it away, but to direct them to the development of the country.

This was emphasized by the expert of the Energy program of the analytical center “Ukrainian Institute of the Future” Andrian Prokip in a comment for Kosatka.Media.

$2.9 billion – this is about UAH 70 billion. Net profit of Naftogaz in 2018 amounted to UAH 13.6 billion, the expert recalled. Therefore, the money received is an essential resource.

“The main thing is that the political “wars” do not start now, that this money should be used to pay subsidies to the population. Or to reduce gas prices. Because by this we will corny eat this money. And they need to be invested only in capital projects. And then they will work for Ukrainians”, he explained.

First of all, Prokip noted, it would be advisable to send this money to the modernization of the GTS.

He explained that the volumes of gas transit agreed upon in the new agreements are significantly less than its capacity. Therefore, it is not necessary to maintain such significant capacities, it is worthwhile to close some directions of the main gas pipeline, reduce the number of compressor stations and so on. According to experts, it will cost up to $1.5 billion.

The rest of the money should be directed to gas production to support production projects.

According to Prokip, it is precisely such capital projects that will contribute to the development of Ukraine and work for the benefit of every Ukrainian.

Recall that on December 27, Naftogaz confirmed the receipts of $2.9 billion, which Gazprom paid by decision of the Stockholm arbitration.

Director of the Center for Energy Research Oleksandr Kharchenko believes that this money can reduce the numbers in bills of Ukrainians for energy and utilities.
