Gas contract with Gazprom: tariffs for the population will rise in Moldova

After the signing of a new contract on natural gas supplies with Gazprom, gas tariffs for the population will increase in Moldova in November, reports Evropeyska Pravda.

“Moldovagaz will soon provide the National Energy Regulatory Agency with documents to bring tariffs in line with the new contract signed with Gazprom. Certainly, tariffs will increase, given the new market conditions. They will grow for two reasons. On the one hand, we started buying gas at a higher price. Secondly, the exchange rate of the dollar against the leu has grown,” said Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu.

He also emphasized the tariffs would change in November. The government will develop measures to compensate for the rise in tariffs for the population, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

In October, the gas tariff for residential consumers remained unchanged – 4.2 lei (UAH 6) per cubic meter of natural gas.

On October 29, Moldovagaz and Gazprom extended the contract for the supply of Russian gas from November 1, 2021, for a period of five years.
