Gazprom ordered additional capacities for gas transit

NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine reports that the Russian company Gazprom needs additional capacity to transport natural gas through the Ukrainian GTS to Europe in October.

Naftogaz has received additional capacities at interstate connections today. Transit services will be paid by Gazprom in addition to the main transit agreement.

It is reported that the capacity distribution auction took place on the RBP (Hungary) and GSA (Poland) platforms on September 21, 2020. This is the first auction of this kind.

As a result of the bidding, Naftogaz was allocated capacities at the inlet and outlet of the Ukrainian gas transmission system, which will be used to provide additional transit volumes for Gazprom.

“Each additional capacity ordered by Gazprom is additional funds for Ukraine and its citizens. The ability of the Ukrainian GTS allows satisfying the demand of both Gazprom and other users in terms of services for the transmission of significant gas volumes. Ukraine, as a reliable transmission state, will continue to ensure uninterrupted gas transmission for European consumers,” said Serhii Pereloma, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.

In December 2019, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and PJSC Gazprom (Russia) signed an Agreement on the provision of services for organizing the transmission of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine valid for 2020-2024.

So, in 2020 this refers to the booked capacity in the amount of 65 billion cubic meters of gas. For these services, Gazprom is obliged to pay more than $7 billion.
