The State Agency on Energy Efficiency: the average annual production of "green" hydrogen in Ukraine may be more than 5 billion m3

UNECE experts, with the support of the Ministry of Energy and State Agency on Energy Efficiency, conducted a study of the potential of hydrogen technologies in Ukraine. The results of the analysis showed the feasibility of introducing a hydrogen economy, broad opportunities for this, as well as the benefits of infrastructure connected to the EU, the press service reports.

Following the goals of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine for the period up to 2035 to establish the capacities of wind and solar power plants, the average annual production of "green" hydrogen can be 5.5 billion nm3.

It is noted that for the preparation of the Strategy for the Development of Hydrogen Energy in Ukraine until 2050, it is important to develop the following issues:

  •  development of legislation and standards for the production, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen;
  •  developing incentives;
  •   implementation of a pilot project for the production of "green" hydrogen;
  •  development of hydrogen transportation infrastructure.

"The development of hydrogen energy will contribute to the activation of innovation and investment activities, strengthening the economy, increasing the competitiveness of Ukrainian enterprises, energy independence and improving the climatic situation in Ukraine," the state agency noted.
