The Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman instructed the NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine to sell gas for the needs of the population at a lower price than the gas price set for special obligations (PSO) – 8.55 UAH/cubic meter. At the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, a decision was made.
NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine said that they can sell gas for less than 8.55 UAH per cubic meter. “I think it is time to reduce the Naftogaz’s price of gas. We approved a decision that gives Naftogaz the right to set lower prices than 8.55 UAH/cubic meter, but not higher”, said the Prime Minister.
The Head of the Board of the NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Andriy Kobolyev, announced a possible reduction in April 2019 of the price of imported gas below the level established for the population, approved by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers. According to his calculations, the price of gas is expected to be about 8,380 UAH/thousand cubic meters, including VAT and the cost of transportation and delivery, while the population, according to the resolution, pays UAH 8,550/thousand cubic meters. Andriy Kobolyev proposed that the Cabinet of Ministers abolish the regime of special obligations and open the market of household consumers for competition between suppliers. In the middle of the campaign, Groysman announced that he would instruct Naftogaz and the Ministry of Finance to begin negotiations with the IMF on the abolition of the PSO.
Earlier it was reported that Naftogaz announced market gas prices for industrial consumers in April 2019 at 7188 UAH per thousand cubic meters.
