Interesting, but not ready – Makohon about adding hydrogen to gas

GTS of Ukraine is interested in the issue of adding hydrogen to gas, but is not ready for such an innovation right now.

This was said during a meeting at Energy Club by Director General of GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makohon in response to a question whether the company was considering the possibility of adding hydrogen to gas.

“Our task now is to reach some level of stable operation, and then we will think about hydrogen. Although we are interested, I can’t share any specifics”, said Makohon.

According to him, the problem is that pipelines and compressor stations are very old in Ukraine.

“We are just starting to think that way. We know that many European operators are already talking about this. We have not yet done a detailed analysis”, he said.

To recap, the Regional Gas Company for the first time in Ukraine began test transportation of a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas in closed areas of the gas distribution system in five regions of the country.
