Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation has agreed on the date of tripartite “consultations” on gas transit

Russia is ready to hold negotiations with the EU and Ukraine on gas on September 19, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said.

“Mr. Sefcovic and I discussed this date (September 19). And as far as I heard, the Ukrainian side also agreed on this date. Therefore, the 19th of September will be considered consistent. We are ready to hold such consultations on the 19th”.

Earlier, Vice-President of the European Energy Commission Maros Sefcovic noted that the date of the negotiations had been agreed. The Ukrainian side also noted its readiness to participate in the negotiations on this date. The negotiations will be attended by the Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Olexiy Orzhel and the Head of Naftogaz, Andriy Kobolyev.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Federation considered the main issue of negotiations was not gas transit, but a contract for direct gas supplies to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side is seeking to conclude a new long-term transit contract under the rules of “European legislation”, while Gazprom's position is to extend the existing contract.

It is known that on January 1, 2020, a 10-year transit contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Gazprom of Russia expires.
