NABU reported suspicion of 5 persons in the case of seizing gas from Naftogaz for 730 million

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine informed five persons of suspicion of taking possession of gas by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine worth over UAH 729.8 million, RBC reports.

“This is the second episode of these persons committing a similar crime in the previous period: the case of gas theft for UAH 1.4 billion has been heard in court since December 2019. Thus, the total amount of theft in two episodes is more than UAH 2.1 billion,” NABU reports.

Two former directors of Energia-Novyi Rozdil LLC and Energia-Novoyavori vsk LLC, a former financial director of these enterprises, as well as a former technical director and an individual organizer of Energiya LLC scheme are suspected of a crime.

According to the investigation, the directors of the enterprises-owners of Novoyavorivska and Novorozdilska CHPPs in Lviv region during 2016-2017 concluded a number of agreements on the purchase of natural gas from NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine for the production of heat energy to the population. To reduce the cost of heat for this category of consumers, NJSC supplied gas to the CHPP at significantly lower market prices.

It is noted that as a result of these actions, the profitability of electricity production by these CHPPs exceeded 60%. According to the conclusions of the examinations, in 2016-2017, the participants in the crime organized the seizure of 151.8 million cubic meters of natural gas in favor of Energia-Novyi Rozdil LLC and Energia-Novoyavorivsk LLC.
