On April 1, 2019, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine signed an agreement with the Norwegian company Wikborg Rein Advokatfirma AS, which provides legal support in the framework of disputes between Naftogaz and Russian Gazprom. The contract cost was 14 million euros.
The cost of the contract includes the fee of the contractor, the cost of travel and the cost of attracting third parties.
In 2014-2018, the Ukrainian Naftogaz and the Russian Gazprom were suing in the Stockholm arbitration regarding contracts of 2009. According to the decision of the arbitrators, Gazprom should compensate Naftogaz $2.56 billion ($2.6 billion with penalties) for under occupancy of Ukrainian gas transmission system.
Wikborg has been accompanying Naftogaz’s arbitration proceedings against Gazprom since 2014. Between the companies signed an agreement worth about 50 million euros.
It was reported earlier that Naftogaz will receive insurance coverage from China in the amount of $1 billion, which will make it possible to attract debt financing and direct investments from China.
