NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine will not be able to keep the current tariff for district heating companies and the population at the level of UAH 7.96 per cubic meter for a long time, which differs from the market by seven times, said Yurii Vitrenko, Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, UNIAN reports.
“Now the state and the national company are keeping the tariff for people to pay the same price for heat like last year. The retail price of gas is UAH 8, while the market price is UAH 45. The difference that Ukrainian consumers save is all the resources of the national company, it is tens of billions of hryvnias,” said the head of the state company.
He believes that the transition of heat-generating companies to biogas will allow Ukraine to reduce natural gas consumption by 5 billion cubic meters.
“Thermal modernization, replacement of boilers. If we were as saving as Poland, Ukraine would not import gas at all now, with our production we would export gas,” Vitrenko said.
At a government meeting on December 15, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said that local budgets would receive UAH 26.9 billion to cover the difference in heat tariffs and pay off the debt to Naftogaz.
