Naftogaz has already used part of the funds received from Gazprom

At the end of 2019, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine sold $500 million of $2.9 billion received from Gazprom by decision of the Stockholm arbitration. This was stated by NBU Chairman Yakiv Smolii at a briefing on monetary policy on January 30, Economic Truth reports.

“According to our data, Naftogaz sold $500 million of the $2.9 billion received from Gazprom”, he said.

He also noted that Naftogaz used the hryvnia from the sold currency for current needs and in order to pay taxes to the state.

To recap, at the end of December, Naftogaz confirmed receipt of $2.9 billion in compensation from Gazprom in pursuance of the 2018 Stockholm arbitration award.

Earlier it was reported that Naftogaz planned to pay taxes in the first quarter of 2020 from $2.9 billion that the company received from Gazprom.
