New German government sees no reason to launch Nord Stream 2

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 did not yet comply with European energy legislation.

The Foreign Minister does not yet see any grounds for launching the gas pipeline, she said on the air of the ZDF TV channel, DW reports.

She also recalled that following the agreement of the former government of Germany and the United States, the gas pipeline would not be able to work in the event of further escalation (Russian-Ukrainian conflict – ed.).

“In its current form, this gas pipeline cannot be approved, since it does not meet the requirements of European energy legislation, and security issues, in any case, remain unresolved,” she emphasized.

To recap, the United States has made changes to the bill on the defense budget, excluding the introduction of sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.

As reported, Germany had suspended the certification of Nord Stream 2.
