Moldovan government transfers Termoelectrica debt to state-owned Energocom

On November 26, the Moldovan Cabinet of Ministers met at a meeting to transfer the state debt Termoelectrica to Energocom, Unimedia.info reports.

“Today we have a short government meeting with only one topic. We met here to make sure citizens have access to natural gas. As you know, on November 22, we received a notification from Moldovagaz, which, in turn, received a notification from Gazprom that supplies would be stopped within 48 hours if the debt was not paid. We found a solution, which is to transfer Termoelectrica's national debt to Energocom, which will help us cover the historical debt of the state-owned company. We are reducing the dependence of Termoelectrica State Enterprise on Moldovagaz, ”said Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa.

The money previously allocated by the Emergency Situations Commission to Energocom will be used to pay off the debt to Gazprom.

To recap, the Moldovan parliament supported the allocation of funds to pay the debt to Gazprom.

On November 22, the Russian company Gazprom notified Moldova of the possible termination of gas supplies in 48 hours due to the lack of payment under the current contract. But Moldova didn't settle with Gazprom.

On November 24, the country pledged to fully repay its debt to the company November 26.
