Heat producers owe Naftogaz almost UAH 100 billion

NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine reports that the debt of heat producers and gas supply companies for natural gas purchased from the company, as of March 31, 2021, approached UAH 100 billion.

To solve the problem, government authorities and market participants must urgently analyze the causes of debt formation and eliminate these causes to prevent their re-accumulation, and at the same time ensure the settlement of accumulated debts – repayment or restructuring.

“Naftogaz has already paid the state all taxes for gas – rent, VAT, income tax. We also pay interest on loans we borrowed to extract or import this fuel. However, Naftogaz has not yet received payment for it from the heating companies and gas suppliers. Most of these debts have not been paid for over a year, they cannot be explained by a pandemic,” said Olena Osmolovska, Director for Relations with Government Regulatory Bodies and Stakeholders of Naftogaz Group.

It is also reported that due to debts, companies cannot work effectively, because instead of repairing networks and equipment, current assets are written off to pay off debts for gas.

“This debt crisis needs to be resolved now so that all market participants can properly prepare for the next winter. The solution should not only save old debts but also prevent the accumulation of new ones,” the company said.
