Shmyhal: Gas suppliers must submit annual contracts in the second quarter

On March 2, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, a meeting was held on the annual gas product with the participation of acting Energy Minister Yurii Vitrenko, Chairman of NEURCU Valerii Tarasiuk and Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports.

The meeting discussed the introduction of annual products for consumers at a fixed price by all gas market participants.

“The launching of the gas market in Ukraine has become an important and necessary step, which, through competition, should demonopolize the industry and enable people to choose the best and most profitable supplier for themselves. The next step should be an annual product for gas so that people conclude contracts at a fixed price for a whole year and can calculate their costs,” the Prime Minister said.

He stressed that the population should not monthly monitor how the prices on the gas market are changing. Therefore, the annual product, which, according to him, is used by all developed world powers, will protect the population from sharp price fluctuations.

During the meeting, the parties discussed possible ways to launch an annual product in the second quarter. The head of government also instructed the head of NEURC to hold a meeting with representatives of district heating companies to discuss mechanisms for launching an annual product.

As a reminder, Naftogaz reduced the gas price under the PSO for heat producers in February.

Earlier it was reported that the government introduced a maximum gas price for the population – UAH 6.99 per cubic meter from February 1 to March 31, 2021.
