Stockholm arbitration will consider the transit case of Gazprom and Naftogaz in April 2021.
The Stockholm Arbitration Court appointed a hearing on the claim of the Ukrainian Naftogaz against the Russian Gazprom, in which the Ukrainian gas company demands to recover $11.6 billion from Gazprom for April-May 2021.
Currently, a hearing is also scheduled for Gazprom’s counter-claim against Naftogaz, in which the Russian company plans to cancel the contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in its lawsuit seeks to revise the terms of the contract for the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine from March 2018. Thus, the existing agreements between Naftogaz and Gazprom give the right to the Ukrainian company to demand a revision of the terms of the contract with a Russian company if significant changes have taken place on the gas market.
The construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 is a major change. After all, Russian Gazprom will be able to supply gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine, which will make it possible to completely abandon the services of the Ukrainian GTS.
Arbitration attached to this case the appeal by Gazprom of the previous decision of the Stockholm Arbitration to pay Naftogaz $4.7 billion for the transit of gas in previous periods.
Earlier it was reported that Russia and Hungary agreed on gas supplies in the absence of a contract for transit through Ukraine.
