USA and Romania jointly opposed Nord Stream 2

Presidents of the United States and Romania, Donald Trump and Klaus Johannis, have confirmed that they are opposed to the construction of Nord Stream 2.

“The US and Romania recognize that energy security is national security. We emphasize our opposition to Nord Stream 2 and other projects that make our allies and partners dependent on Russia for energy”, said a joint statement widespread by the White House following a visit to Washington by the Head of the Romanian state.

It notes that “Romania has natural gas resources that potentially allow us to increase the well-being of our countries and improve the energy security of Europe”.

The United States and Romania have agreed to consider US participation in improving the investment climate in Romania “in the interest of both countries”.

The parties also called on the relevant industries of their countries to work closely to “support the implementation of Romania’s goals in the development of civilian nuclear energy”, the statement said.
