US will continue to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2

State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the US administration intended to continue to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2 to show that it opposed this project, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“We will continue to introduce restrictive measures against individuals and companies whose activities are subject to such sanctions. Thus, we will demonstrate that we are against this gas pipeline," he said at a briefing.

Price also stressed that the United States will simultaneously negotiate with partners to "prevent Russia from using energy as a lever of pressure" in Europe.

To recap, the offshore section of the first line of Nord Stream 2 is mechanically completed.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden had decided to waive new US sanctions on the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, since it was almost complete, and this step would damage relations with Europe.
