Construction of Nord Stream 2 is suspended
The Swiss company Allseas, which is engaged in the laying of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, announced the suspension of work due to US sanctions. This was reported on the company's website.
“Pending the adoption of the US National Defense Budget Act, Allseas has suspended construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Allseas will act in accordance with the law and expects the US authorities to clarify the regulatory, technical and environmental issues”, the statement said.
US President Donald Trump has signed the law on the US defense budget, which also prescribed mandatory sanctions against companies and individuals who lay pipes or help to build Nord Stream 2.
A few days earlier, the U.S. Senate supported a draft law that approved the U.S. defense budget for 2020 (NDAA).
Earlier,head of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev explained how US sanctions would stop Nord Stream 2.
