Head of Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev said he was in talks with the US government to impose new sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 gas project. Kobolyev announced this during his speech at an event organized by the Atlantic Council in Washington, reports Hromadske.
“The game is not over yet. The Russians will try to create their own technical capabilities to complete the laying of the pipeline”, he said.
He noted that in Russia there are technical opportunities for laying pipes, although the Russians “are not the best in building efficient and modern ships”.
“We are now discussing, in particular here (in the USA – ed.) how to be sure that this project is finally buried”, Kobolyev added.
He noted that he hopes that the US government will continue its efforts to counter Nord Stream 2, which Gazprom is building to supply Russian gas bypassing Ukraine.
US Secretary of Energy Dan Bruett, during his speech at the Munich Security Conference, said that Russia would not be able to complete the pipeline without the help of Western companies.
