Ukraine starts importing gas for injection into underground storage

The head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Serhii Makohon, said on his Facebook page that Ukraine has begun importing gas for pumping into underground gas storage facilities.

“Very slowly, but the import of gas for injection it into UGSFs has already started. Now it is only 3 million m3 per day,” he wrote.

He also noted that imports since the beginning of the month amounted to 15.7 million m3, with 100% imported from Hungary, and not from the standard Slovak direction.

Since the beginning of the year, 577 million m3 have been imported, of which 511 million m3 (88%) from Hungary.

According to him, the opening of the backhaul by the GTS Operator last year made it possible to diversify sources of supply and create competition between them.

To recap, GTSOU signed a cooperation agreement with a leading Italian company.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers ordered to have at least 17 billion cubic meters of gas in the UGS facility by the beginning of the heating season.
