Ukrainian and Slovak GTS operators launch virtual reverse flow

Ukrainian GTS Operator and Slovak GTS Operator Eustream a.s. launch a virtual reverse flow through the connection point Velke Kapushany – Uzhhorod from March 1, 2020. This was reported by the press service.

The company reports, in addition to the capacities of the Budintse connection point used to import natural gas to Ukraine since 2014, Eustream and the OGTSU, in accordance with the signed cooperation agreement for the connection point Velki Kapushany – Uzhhorod, are launching a virtual reverse flow (backhaul), thereby further expanding the Slovak corridor for gas supplies to Ukraine.

“Starting from March 1, operators daily offer the following capacity for the market: 10 million cubic meters per day (104 GWh per day)”, the report said.

The capacity of the backhaul depends on the presence of a physical flow in the direction Ukraine-Slovakia, which means that it is intermittent and can be interrupted if there is no flow in the direction from Ukraine to Slovakia.

If there is interest from the market, operators can increase the level of backhaul.

Head of the OGTSU Serhiy Makohon also said that he would soon start working on a Serhii Makohon in Hungary.

“The virtual reverse flow significantly expands the possibilities for importing gas to Ukraine from the EU, significantly enhances our energy security”, he wrote.

To recap, in January the OGTSU paid almost UAH 619 million of taxes.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian GTS Operator had begun a virtual revers flow from Poland.
