Ukrgazvydobuvannya launches new technology for exploration and development of gas deposits

JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya begins to apply a new for Ukraine technology of basin analysis and modelling of hydrocarbon systems for prospecting and exploration of hydrocarbons, the press service reports.

“Based on the analysis of spatial dynamic 4D models of hydrocarbon systems, the company will predict risks, calculate the economics of projects and make decisions on production plans, in particular, drilling new wells,” the message says.

Ukrgazvydobuvannya plans to use basin analysis to assess the oil and gas potential of the Black Sea areas, prospect for hydrocarbons in the Carpathian fold belt and further study the license areas in the Dnieper-Donets basin.

“Basin modelling is another step towards reducing risks, primarily of drilling. Thanks to this technology, we will be able to improve the accuracy of risk assessment both for individual promising objects and for large geological structures to increase the resource base and production of Naftogaz," Oleksandr Romaniuk, director of the Naftogaz Exploration and Production division said.

The new direction of work with basin analysis and modelling of hydrocarbon systems at UkrNIIgaz, a research division of Naftogaz, was headed by Felipe Rodriguez. He has 21 years of experience in the oil and gas industry in the field of basin analysis and analysis of oil and gas systems, worked on the exploration and development of oil and gas deposits in Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Northern Brazil, Guyana, Angola, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, South Africa, Myanmar, Norway and Greenland, notably BP, Repsol and Cepsa.

Basin modelling technology is actively used by ExxonMobil, Shell, BP - leading international oil and gas companies - for forecasting and planning exploration and development processes.

To recap, Ukrgazvydobuvannya has drilled a new exploration well in Poltava region.
