Germany expects completion of the Nord Stream 2 construction by the end of 2020

Berlin expects the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by the end of the second half of 2020. This was stated by the coordinator of the German government for transatlantic cooperation Peter Bayer, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

According to him, the project is “essential for energy security of Germany”.

He also noted that US sanctions on the project are “incomprehensible”, especially considering the fact that Ukraine and Russia have reached previous agreements regarding a new contract for gas transit to Europe.

“I expected much more understanding from the American friends... Friends are not treated like this”, said Bayer.

Recall that the Swiss company, which was engaged in the laying of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, announced the suspension of work due to US sanctions, since US President Donald Trump signed the law on the country's defense budget.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine and Russia reached preliminary agreements on a contract to extend gas transit in 2020. The parties must sign the document until 29 December.
